Saint Elizabeth University is seeking to hire an experienced Academic Advisor to assist with developing the Student Success Center. Reporting to the Dean of Student Success, the Academic Advisor is responsible for maintaining a holistic view of student progression. This includes actively monitoring progress toward academic and career goals; guidance on degree requirements, plan of study, and academic policies; and establishing an encouraging relationship. The Academic Advisor will be a dynamic student-centered professional who will utilize appropriate technology and maintain accurate up-to-date tracking for all students on caseload. Collaboration with all campus partners including faculty to address student concerns and create services that enhance the student experience will be essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Advise a caseload of 70-100 first- & second-year and transfer undergraduate students on their academic plan, campus resources available, and academic policies, and meeting all students on caseload a minimum of twice a semester.
• Provide course registration guidance.
• Maintain up to date data on student traffic using Student Success systems (Navigate) and provide reports to Dean of Student Success.
• Conduct verification of degree progress, maintain accurate records of plans of study, and approval of various forms to ensure timely student progression, etc.
• Assist with Navigate alerts and referrals for students who need additional support (including students on academic warning/probation) and facilitate timely interventions that would best assist students with resolutions
• Utilize a student-centered approach to empower students to advocate for themselves effectively while teaching them how to navigate campus and community resources.
• Instruct First Year seminar classes for 1st and 2nd semester of freshman year.
• Respond knowledgeably to the needs of first-generation, low-income, and traditionally underserved populations.
• Assist with faculty advisor training and transition of caseload to faculty advisors
• Conceptualize, implement, and assess new intervention techniques/services, initiatives that would benefit student progress; support continuous quality improvement related to student retention and completion.
• Work collaboratively with all campus partners (Bursars, Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Engagement, Health Services, Counseling Center, Accessibility Services, Tutoring Services, Social Worker, Career Services, Etc.) including faculty to address student concerns and create services that enhance the student experience.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, human services, psychology, or related field with a minimum of two years of work experience in an educational setting working directly with students or an equivalent combination of training and experience. – Master’s degree in Social Work, Education, or a related field is preferred but not required.
• Proven collaborative and student-centered approach
• Proven organizational skills
• Considerable skills in data management, problem-solving, and research.
• Considerable skill in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, Access, and Publisher.
• Experience in Ellucian Power Campus/Self Service or other SIS preferred
• Experience working with college students preferred
