Harris-Stowe State University is a historically Black institution (HBCU) located in the heart of vibrant mid-town St. Louis, Missouri. Job Summary

The College of Education is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as an Adjunct Professor in Elementary Education. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic excellence of our institution by providing instruction and guidance to aspiring educators in the field of elementary education.

Essential Functions

  • Teach Courses: Deliver engaging and effective instruction in elementary education courses, utilizing a variety of teaching methodologies and resources to promote active learning and student engagement.
  • Curriculum Development: Assist in the development, revision, and assessment of curriculum materials, ensuring alignment with program goals and standards.
  • Classroom Management: Establish a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success, fosters student-teacher relationships, and encourages active participation.
  • Assessments and Grading: Develop and administer fair and objective assessments to evaluate student progress and provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments and exams.
  • Advising and Mentoring: Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, guiding them in their academic and professional development and helping them navigate their educational journey.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with educational research, trends, and best practices in elementary education through professional development activities, workshops, and conferences.
  • Collaborative Engagement: Collaborate with colleagues within the College of Education to promote interdisciplinary learning opportunities, share resources, and enhance the overall educational experience for students.
  • Service and Engagement: Engage in service activities that contribute to the College of Education, such as participating in department meetings, serving on committees, and engaging in community outreach initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Elementary Education or a related field.
  • A strong background and expertise in elementary education theory, pedagogy, and curriculum development.
  • Prior teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level, with a demonstrated ability to effectively engage and inspire students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with diverse student populations and collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment that values diversity and promotes equity.
  • Familiarity with current educational technologies and their integration into instruction.

*This is a part-time adjunct position, and the specific course assignments will be determined based on the needs of the College of Education. The successful candidate will join a dedicated faculty committed to preparing future educators who will make a meaningful impact in the field of elementary education.
