Job Summary

The College of Education is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable individual to join our team as an Adjunct Professor in Special Education. The successful candidate will contribute to our mission of preparing educators to support and advocate for students with diverse learning needs.

Essential Functions

  • Teach Courses: Deliver high-quality instruction in special education courses, covering topics such as inclusive education, assessment and evaluation, behavior management, and instructional strategies for students with special needs.
  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the department to develop and update course materials, ensuring alignment with current research, best practices, and accreditation standards.
  • Differentiated Instruction: Implement instructional strategies that address the diverse needs and abilities of students, employing a variety of teaching methods, technologies, and accommodations to promote an inclusive learning environment.
  • Field Experience Supervision: Provide guidance and supervision to students during their field experiences and practicum placements, ensuring they gain hands-on experience in working with students with special needs.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Develop and administer assessments to measure student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to support their growth and development as special education professionals.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with research, trends, and best practices in special education through professional development activities, conferences, and ongoing learning opportunities.
  • Collaboration and Networking: Foster collaborative relationships with colleagues within the College of Education and community partners to enhance student learning experiences and stay informed about local initiatives and resources.
  • Service and Engagement: Engage in service activities within the College of Education, such as participating in department meetings, serving on committees, and contributing to community outreach initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Expertise and experience in special education theory, assessment, instructional strategies, and inclusive practices.
  • Prior teaching experience, preferably in special education, with a demonstrated ability to engage and inspire students.
  • Knowledge of laws, policies, and procedures related to special education, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse student populations and colleagues.
  • Commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and social justice in education.
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies and their integration into special education instruction is desirable.

*This is a part-time adjunct position, and the specific course assignments will be determined based on the needs of the College of Education. The successful candidate will join a dedicated faculty committed to preparing future special education professionals who will make a positive impact in the lives of students with diverse learning needs.
