The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Professor of Biochemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, College of Sciences [R0145435].
ROLE of the POSITION
We seek candidates who are using innovative approaches to address important and challenging problems in all aspects of biology at the molecular level. The new tenure-track faculty member will be expected to: a) contribute to the undergraduate and graduate teaching in the broad biomedical area and develop new graduate level courses in their area of expertise, b) develop a vigorous externally-funded research program in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology or other related fields, c) engage in service to the University and community, and d) mentor undergraduate and Ph.D. students in research. Applications in areas that can enhance existing departmental strengths are particularly encouraged.
The UNLV Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry is comprised of 22 full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty members who are actively engaged in extramurally supported research in biochemistry, physical, materials & computational chemistry, analytical, inorganic & organic chemistry, radiochemistry, and chemical education. The department is in the midst of a rapid expansion. In the last couple of years, we have made four new hires in materials and computational chemistry, with two additional tenure-track faculty recruitments at various stages of completion. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a completed Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate must possess a proven record of research accomplishments; such a track record is normally demonstrated through post-doctoral research training or equivalent research/industrial experience. Successful candidates will develop a nationally recognized research program, have strong teaching skills, and be active in providing service to the university and the profession.
