Job Description:
The
Avionics Embedded Software Development and Test Engineer role is focused on developing, testing, and managing embedded software for avionics systems, primarily in a military context. Heres a breakdown of the key responsibilities, requirements, and skills for this role:
Role Overview:
This engineer will develop, modify, test, and document embedded software used in avionics systems for military upgrade programs. The position involves managing software requirements and ensuring they are communicated effectively to both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Software Development for Avionics Systems :
- Apply engineering principles to design, implement, and evaluate embedded software within avionics systems.
- Develop software in an embedded environment, likely for real-time systems that require high reliability and safety standards.
- Technical Proficiency in Development Tools :
- Use the Green Hills Multi Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for software development, compiling, linking, and testing modules on avionics systems.
- Utilize static and dynamic testing tools to ensure software reliability and functionality.
- Preferred tools include PC Lint for static code analysis, LDRA TestBed for code quality and safety testing, and VectorCast for automated testing.
- Software Development Lifecycle Management :
- Translate system requirements into software requirements and test cases, ensuring each requirement is accounted for and verifiable.
- Preferred knowledge of DOORS (a requirements management tool), with the ability to link requirements to specific test procedures.
- Experience with multiple programming languages is preferred, especially C, C++, C#, and Python .
- Project Management and Integration :
- Plan and support software integration projects, ensuring they meet specific customer requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (such as hardware, systems, and test engineering) to ensure that software meets all critical performance parameters.
- Identify opportunities for design improvements to enhance weapon system capabilities.
- Customer and Team Interaction :
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to coordinate and ensure project success.
- Maintain strong relationships across various departments and disciplines.
- Knowledge of Military Aerospace Standards :
- Preferred familiarity with military aerospace design and certification processes, including requirements development, verification, and design stages (preliminary and detailed).
- Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance , indicating that the role may involve handling sensitive or classified information.
Education and Skills Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree (typically in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field).
- Software Development Skills : Proficiency in embedded software development and knowledge of multiple programming languages (preferably C, C++, C#, Python).
- Testing and Verification Tools : Experience with specific tools like Green Hills Multi, LDRA TestBed, PC Lint, and VectorCast.
- Requirements Management : Familiarity with tools like DOORS for managing and linking requirements to tests.
- Interpersonal Skills : Strong communication, relationship-building, and teamwork abilities.
- Organizational and Documentation Skills : Ability to document software development processes and project requirements.
- PC Proficiency : Skills in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications:
