POSITION SUMMARY:
The Design Coordinator plays a critical role in transforming a homeowner’s vision into a fully realized, buildable basement remodeling project. This position blends residential design, client consultation, technical drawing, and project coordination.

Acting as the bridge between Sales, the homeowner, and Field Production, the Design Coordinator ensures every project is:
✓ fully developed
✓ technically sound
✓ aesthetically cohesive
✓ aligned with the Basements Plus mission of Creating Raving Fans

This role is responsible for developing detailed CAD plans, refining designs, preparing selections, coordinating with trade partners, managing change orders, and generating all documentation needed for a successful production handoff. Success requires strong design expertise, excellent communication, and the ability to juggle multiple detailed projects in a fast-paced environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Design & Project Development
    • Translate the signed contract and preliminary Sales plans into buildable basement designs.
    • Create, update, and maintain floor plans, elevations, 3D renderings, and CAD drawings using 20/20 (Design Flex), Chief Architect, or similar.
    • Integrate mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) and framing considerations into design work.
    • Produce comprehensive project packages including scope of work, drawings, selection sheets, and all supporting documentation.
  • Material Coordination & Job Preparation
    • Obtain and verify vendor/subcontractor quotes, ensuring alignment with project budget.
    • Prepare, document, and process change orders with transparent communication to homeowners.
    • Confirm all selections, measurements, and product specifications prior to Production handoff.
  • Customer Experience & Communication
    • Guide homeowners through the full design + selections process with exceptional service.
    • Maintain proactive communication with homeowners, Project Managers, and trade partners.
    • Tackle design revisions and challenges with professionalism, patience, and confidence.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience with 20/20 (Design Flex), Chief Architect, or similar interior design/CAD software.
  • 2–5 years in residential remodeling, interior design, or construction (basement finishing preferred).
  • Strong foundation in cabinetry, space planning, and functional interior layouts.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and BuilderTrend (or comparable project management platform).
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with homeowners, subcontractors, and internal production teams.
  • Availability for occasional evening/weekend design meetings.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
