Definition : Under supervision of the Division Chief of Specialty Care, this position will be responsible for the clinical and managerial oversight of the podiatry service line. Primary responsibilities include providing podiatry services to patients, managing day-to-day clinical operations, maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations, ensuring continuity and consistency in service delivery and quality, training and development of staff, enhancing patient satisfaction, and establishing a climate for continuous improvement. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt. Essential Functions : Essential functions may vary among positions and may include the following tasks. Clinical Tasks : Diagnoses, treats, manages, or prescribes treatment for the foot, ankle, and related structures using medical histories, physical examinations, medications, imaging, and laboratory test results for pediatric and adult patients. Performs office procedures and wound care to foot, ankle, and related structures. Provides and performs foot, ankle, and related structure surgeries at an ambulatory surgical center within the scope of practice. Practices effective infection control procedures. Provides advice on appropriate footwear and foot care to clients. Assesses, plans, implements, and manages appropriate interventions for clients with chronic diseases/conditions. Delivers preliminary diagnosis to patients and directs, prescribes, or provides a full treatment regimen. Consults with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and other health care providers on patient care. Prescribes medications, corrective devices, physical therapy, or surgery. Advises patients about treatments and foot care techniques. Records all diagnoses, treatments, and prescriptions. Maintains electronic medical records in accordance with clinic guidelines. Contributes to quality improvement initiatives. Attends and contributes to all required meetings/consultations. Works with clinic leadership to ensure timely completion of medical reports. Completes special assignments to upgrade clinical quality of care. Administrative Tasks : Provides clinical supervision of podiatry providers and oversees day-to-day administration of the podiatry division. Serves as a communication liaison with the Chief of Specialty Care, Practice Manager, providers, staff, and technicians. Assists Practice Manager in formulating and adhering to division budgets. Develops a limb salvage program. Maintains a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) access and monitors compliance. Provides technical training and instructions to subordinate staff. Maintains assigned clinic area oversight by coordinating and enforcing operational policies. Resolves conflicts among provider staff and between staff and patients. Participates in writing and interpreting policies and procedures. Develops staff goals and objectives for evaluation. Follows all departmental and Community policies. Maintains department direction with River People Health Center objectives. Evaluates processes within clinic operations for quality workflow. Reports key performance indicators to the executive team and Quality Committee. Works with the revenue cycle team to resolve reimbursement issues. Observes policies and guidelines of HHS and RPHC. Ensures staff are qualified and trained. Assigns and directs daily workflows. Ensures patient interactions comply with HIPAA regulations. Maintains current professional knowledge through continuing education. Knowledge of conservative and surgical management of the lower extremity. Knowledge of infection control principles and practices. Knowledge of the culture and customs of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Knowledge of contemporary podiatry techniques and healthcare issues. Knowledge of quality assurance processes. Knowledge of IHS formulary and policies. Skill in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating podiatry patients. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Skill in verbal and written communication. Skill in managing various employee types in stressful situations. Ability to provide quality patient care through evidenced-based interventions. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations. Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare clear reports. Ability to organize and follow one's own work schedule. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Ability to lift and carry 10lbs. Education & Experience: Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from an accredited school. Must have a current Arizona license to practice podiatry, a minimum of five (5) years’ full-time experience as a licensed Podiatrist, and a minimum of two (2) years in a leadership role. Must have current surgical practice at an ambulatory surgical center and experience overseeing a limb salvage program. Certification through the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM) preferred. Certification through the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) optional. Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Preferred: Familiarity with the Indian Health Service. Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow satisfactory performance of the duties will be considered.
