Job Description

Overview Seattle Colleges seeks a Director of Communications for Seattle Promise. The position reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Public Relations and Strategic Initiatives and works closely with the Sr. Executive Director for Seattle Promise. This role is part of the Seattle Promise leadership team and leads the program's communications strategy and activities. Position details Base pay range: $95,690.00/yr - $132,141.00/yr. This range is provided by Seattle Colleges; your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience. The position is funded by the City of Seattle’s Family, Education, Preschool, and Promise Levy through June 30, 2026, with possible extension upon renewal of the City’s Education Levy. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a regular basis; Seattle Colleges will not sponsor work visas. What you will be working on Representation Represents Seattle Colleges and the Seattle Promise program. Representation: External Coordinate with high school programs, college programs, and partner programs; engage with external partners such as Seattle Public Schools, City of Seattle, Department of Education and Early Learning, university partners, and other entities on public information projects. Facilitate check-ins with Seattle Promise leadership and other stakeholders; engage in community outreach and legislative advocacy efforts as appropriate. Act as communications counsel for external partnerships and ensure alignment of messaging and branding. Representation: Internal Coordinate internal communications with Seattle Promise, Running Start, and other district programs to align strategy and measure effectiveness. Collaborate with Seattle Colleges Student Services departments to align strategy and resources; ensure consistent branding and messaging across departments. Develop audience- and program-specific content; train Seattle Promise Student Ambassadors for public appearances. Participate in strategic communications planning with Seattle Promise leadership and staff. Communications Lead development and implementation of communications programs to enhance Seattle Promise’s image and increase student recruitment, enrollment, and retention. Coordinate with communications, recruitment, and web teams to create a seamless student experience across Seattle Colleges. Recommend processes and participate in policy development; manage recruitment, retention, and completion communications including digital marketing, social media, website development, and CRM communications. Communications: Planning Lead strategic communications plans for key audiences (students, families, and other stakeholders) with goals, objectives, strategies, and tactics that support Seattle Promise. Collaborate with leadership and program teams to implement plans for recruitment, enrollment, retention, and completion. Communications: Internal Direct internal communications to increase faculty and staff understanding and support of program goals and updates. Communications: Media Relations Lead media relations efforts, act as media contact, prepare spokespersons with talking points, and publicize coverage; plan, track, and report the communications budget for Seattle Promise. Communications: Products and Materials Manage graphic identity and top-tier communications products for Seattle Promise audiences; develop and approve brand-compliant materials; maintain editorial and brand style guides; manage the Seattle Promise website and social media; create content for high school students; develop executive leadership communications materials; ensure accessibility and cultural responsiveness. Assessment Support program assessment with the Director of Research and Planning; conduct annual communications audits and implement improvements. What you bring as a candidate Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations or journalism or related field; 10+ years of professional experience. Progressive leadership experience in public relations, strategic communications, and related areas; experience in complex environments with multiple stakeholders and government entities. Experience in budget management with multiple funding sources and restrictions; sound judgement, confidentiality, and advisory skills. Proven ability to present to executives and community leaders; ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines; experience leading content teams. Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders and creating culturally responsive and accessible communications materials. Supervisory experience and ability to travel between Seattle College campuses and other worksites.
