Position Type: Other/ K-12 Distance Learning / Home School Teacher Date Posted: 4/7/2025 Location: Fast Track Date Available: 05/30/2025 Closing Date: 04/14/2025 District: Ketchikan Gateway Borough Schools Job Description JOB TITLE: Distance Learning/ Home School Teacher REPORTS TO: Principal JOB PURPOSE: The work to be performed includes all services generally performed by an online teacher in the area of online course instruction. Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Complete the mandatory Online Teacher Training Modules and or Meeting before beginning teaching duties. Provide online supervision of assigned Alaska State Virtual online classes. Check student progress and respond to student inquiries on a daily basis. Reset student accounts as soon as possible and not exceeding 24 hours after a reset is required. Make personalized contact with student, on-site supervisor or parent at least weekly and maintain a record of the contact as required by 4 AAC 33.421 (d) (3). Attend all scheduled teacher meetings. Submit grades to the Alaska State Virtual School’s website when students complete the course or when the course term expires. Work with the Alaska State Virtual School’s Director and the Technology Coordinator to assure that all enrolled students have a successful online educational experience. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree State of Alaska Type A teacher certification Must meet State of Alaska Highly Qualified requirement where applicable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general educational periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, educational correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, students, parents, and community members. Mathematical Skill: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Problem Solving: Can identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully. Develops alternative solutions. Works well in group problem solving situations.
