Description of Position The successful candidate recognizes that providing exceptional learning experiences for Yavapai College students is our highest priority. The candidate embraces the role in student success, recruitment, retention, and persistence to degree/program completion.
The successful candidate will teach discipline-specific courses, primarily history and political science, as needed. The candidate may be asked to teach courses in cognate disciplines and interdisciplinary courses depending on credentials. Responsibilities include course preparation and instruction, curriculum development, participation in college community activities including ongoing professional growth activities and assessment of course and program outcomes. The candidate must be open and willing to improve teaching success and curriculum development in multiple modalities (online, onsite, and hybrid) and be able to teach courses offered days and evenings. In addition, faculty should be willing to teach in different semester durations (16- and 8-week). Faculty are expected to participate in developing innovative forms of assessment and should be willing to utilize OER materials when possible.

All full-time faculty serve as provisional faculty for a period of three years prior to being reviewed for continuing status. The determination of faculty status is, ultimately, at the discretion of the College President who serves as the Yavapai College District Governing Board's designee. This position reports to the Division Dean.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities - Broad knowledge of U.S. and World history and political science
- Knowledge and understanding of contemporary teaching methods and learning theories
- Knowledge of curriculum design and assessment practices
- Knowledge and effective use of contemporary instructional technologies and learning platforms including learning management systems like Canvas
- Skill in creating and grading assessments that accurately measure student learning
- Skill and proficiency in planning and delivering engaging and effective instruction to community college students
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply, and follow college policies and procedures
- Ability to develop OER-based courses/curriculum
- Ability to communicate in a timely and effective manner with students, colleagues, administrators, and the general public in writing and through digital modalities (eg, Zoom, Canvas)
- Ability to address and resolve classroom issues related to teaching, student learning, access, and equity
- Ability to efficiently manage time to balance teaching, preparation, and college administrative duties
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public.
Minimum Expectations & Requirements - Master's degree in history, political science or a relevant field with at least 18
graduate credit hours in history and/or political science. - Experience teaching in multiple modalities including online, onsite, and hybrid.
- Demonstrated commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
Preferred Skills & Abilities - PhD in history, political science or a related discipline
- Experience teaching concurrent courses for regional high schools
- Community college teaching experience

- Spanish Interpreter Incentive Program: Employees interested in additional compensation for their Spanish speaking skills agree to assist YC by attending two recruiting events and being available for Spanish Interpretation needs as they arise. Compensation is added to the employee's regular pay at the rate of $50 per month for employees testing at the Advanced Mid-level and $100 a month for employees testing at the Advanced High level. If you are interested in participating let your HR Business partner know, so they can schedule you for the ACTFL language proficiency test at the YC testing center. (Does not apply to Spanish Professors)
- Direct Deposit: Paychecks deposited directly into the employee's bank account(s)
- Tuition Waiver: Eligible Full-time Faculty and Staff may enroll up to 6 hours; eligible dependents may enroll in a partial or full program of course work without payment of tuition, exceptions may be lab fees and market based additional fees
- Sabbatical: Faculty, professional and administrative staff may apply for compensated leave of up to a year after six years of continuous service
