Job Description

The Volunteer and Institutional Engagement (VIE) division provides network-wide thought leadership on volunteer engagement and programming, while strengthening theory and practice to increase the collective impact of global volunteering in support of Habitat’s build and influence agenda.

The Global Foundations, Organizations, and Institutions (GFOI) team prioritizes fundraising efforts on professional foundations, bi- and multi-lateral institutions – all recognized as partners and donors with significant assets of $100 million+. These institutional partners have high quality designated staff and strategic program priorities with strict guidelines and restrictions on proposal development and grant execution.

The VIE and GFOI teams are part of the Integrated Programs division, which envisions an interdependent global network that creates deep and lasting impact and demonstrates strong stewardship of HFHI’s relationships and funding to eliminate the systemic inequities and meaningfully address the housing need around the world.

What’s in it for you?
We invite you to join us on the journey to support HFHI in shaping our global fundraising efforts, particularly in the field of volunteering for sustainable development, including housing and shelter. You will be a part of a meaningful learning experience that will expose you to non-profit work and culture, as well as challenging and fulfilling projects and experts in the field. You will have the opportunity to learn from and contribute to a global team that leads major fundraising efforts in support of quality programming on housing. The successful candidate will be joining the VIE and GFOI teams at HFHI, helping to build a framework for collaborative fundraising efforts for various housing programs that tap into the power of people’s engagement in development through volunteering.

What will you build?
As the Global Research and Fundraising for Volunteering Intern, you will:
* (50%) Lead the development of a deep analysis of support towards volunteerism, volunteer engagement and/or volunteer programming, both in general and Sustainable Development Goals related contexts, from global FOI donors previously identified by our team, considering:
* What are donors saying about volunteerism today? Develop a SWOT analysis that spells out Habitat’s comparative advantage in volunteerism/volunteer engagement.
* What’s their interest in supporting volunteering or community engagement? What have been their funding priorities in the last 3 to 5 years?
* Is volunteering the right word? What other terms/keywords should we consider to expand the pool of potential funders (e.g. youth, issue-based coalition)?
* What are some of the thematic focuses, program areas, and/or development interventions connected to volunteering that funders are interested in? How do they fund them?
* (15%) Review work been done around best in class volunteering programming at other similarly structured NGOs – what type of funding support they have received and from which donors?
* (15%) List and analyze examples of programmatic efforts around housing engaging youth and community volunteers that have received significant funding support. What can we learn from them? Are these examples replicable in the context of Habitat’s work?
* (10%) Conduct targeted global research to facilitate curation and shortlisting of 5 to 6 consulting outfits with experience conducting (from a social entrepreneurship lens) – Financial ROI analysis of a cross section of Global Village programs within the Habitat Network.
* (10%) Complete miscellaneous administrative tasks as assigned by team leader related to database management, meetings, or grant research.

To complete these tasks, it is important that you:
1) familiarize yourself with the HFHI’s volunteering approach literature and materials.
2) map and determine the key donors to be considered for the review. Based on the results of the analysis, -and in parallel to the insights from a network-wide mapping on volunteering efforts currently being carried out by the VIE team-, you will contribute to the development of a fundraising proposal with a focus on a network-wide programmatic effort.
