Job Summary:

The New School is seeking a long-term substitute to teach Chemistry in the Upper School during the Spring Semester (starting in January 2026) of the 2025-26 school year.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Teach two sections of Chemistry and one section of AP Chemistry

• Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned

• Follow the lesson plans provided by the absent teacher, and refine or provide additional planning, as needed

• Provide brief reports in writing on class activities at regular intervals for the teacher

• Encourage, monitor, and promote student progress

• Conduct assessments to monitor student progress; maintain records of grades; collaborate with the teacher or division head to provide quarter and semester grades and reports, as needed

• Maintain student confidentiality

• Assume the responsibility for overseeing student behavior in the classroom, during lunch and activity periods, and in all school settings

• Interact in a professional manner with colleagues, students, and parents

• Work cooperatively with all school personnel

• Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates

• Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree a plus

• One-year classroom experience in Chemistry or a related field

• A proven commitment to the development of young people as individual learners

• A track record of collaboration with colleagues

• CPR certification preferred
