Job Description

Position Summary

NYU Grossman School of Medicine, part of NYU Langone Health, is seeking a Medical Assistant Supervisor (FGP). The supervisor will oversee daily clinic operations and assist the practice or nurse manager with supervising medical assistant and patient care assistant staff. The role involves providing direct support to physicians and nurses, collaborating with clinical secretaries and medical records, and implementing policies to improve operational efficiency.

Job Responsibilities


  • Oversee Medical Assistant (MA) staff and patient care activities at a Faculty Group Practice site.
  • Resolve employee and procedure?related issues, authorise attendance, schedules, sick time changes, and manage payroll for direct reports.
  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule MA activities; participate in interdisciplinary patient?care planning with physicians and act as a medical assistant when needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between clinical staff and physicians to ensure effective patient service; build relationships with group physicians.
  • Address physician concerns pertaining to patients and ensure suites are properly staffed to avoid provider delays.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with administrative staff for patient updates.
  • Represent the management team, establish clinical office policies, and communicate expectations to staff.
  • Train MA/PCA roles, enforce NYULH and FGP policies, including HIPAA, Compliance, and Human Resources.
  • Identify routine problems, recommend solutions, advise when management intervention is required, and oversee QI and QA activities for Point of Care Testing.
  • Collaborate with Practice and Clinical Leadership to develop staffing standards, training, and performance metrics.
  • Assist in implementing key FGP operational initiatives such as MIPS and MyChart patient utilization.
  • Optimize patient flow and access, support clinical quality initiatives, and manage clinical in?baskets and open encounters.
  • Ensure clinical compliance with Patient Safety initiatives and reporting.
  • Perform bedside duties: vitals, specimen collection, Point of Care testing (EKG, glucose, pregnancy, urinalysis), assist with procedures, and maintain exam rooms.
  • Follow infection control standards and validate patient medical records for accuracy.
  • Maintain supplies, cleanse equipment, support clinical quality management, and complete annual competencies (fire safety, hazardous waste, MedSLED, HIPAA).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Act as NYU Langone Health Faculty Group Practice brand ambassador, upholding mission, vision, and values.
  • Drive consistency by embodying the FGP Service Strategy CARES (Connect, Align, Respond, Ensure, Sign?Off).
  • Greet patients warmly, clarify steps of care, and communicate effectively.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and management to ensure a positive experience and timely resolution of all patient interactions.
  • Apply the LEARN model (Listen, Empathize, Apologize, Resolve, Notify) for service recovery and elevate issues to leadership when needed.
  • Share improvement ideas to enhance patient experience and access.
  • Partner with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office to promote a positive experience.
  • Ensure staff adhere to the Access Agreement gold standard principles.


Staff Engagement
  • Mentor MA/PCA staff and provide opportunities for professional developmentli>
  • Assist with competency assessments, performance evaluations, feedback, training needs, and career pathways.
  • Conduct routine staff meetings and huddles to promote communication and feedback.
  • Participate in FGP corporate meetings/WebEx for alignment with network updates and training.
  • Promote employee engagement activities and gather internal feedback.



Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree required.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or, upon hire, current medical?assistant certification from an accredited national institution (e.g.,AMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA).
At least 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
Proficiency in EKG and phlebotomy/venipuncture.
Demonstrated progressive leadership or potential for leadership competency, including the ability to develop, guide, motivate, nurture, and coach others.
Knowledge of medical insurance eligibility and authorization rules.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Visio).

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Salary Transparency
