The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (SOM) is recruiting a full-time Genetic Counselor (GC). This position offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals, providing essential genetic counseling services to patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing prenatal and preconception genetic counseling to patients and families, helping them understand the genetic aspects of reproductive health, and supporting decision-making based on genetic information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive prenatal and preconception genetic counseling to patients and their families
  • Assess and evaluate family histories, interpret genetic risks, and provide clear communication about potential genetic conditions
  • Offer counseling on genetic testing options, including but not limited to carrier screening, prenatal cell free DNA screening (pcfDNA), and diagnostic testing
  • Work closely with obstetricians, gynecologists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate care and ensure high-quality patient outcomes
  • Assist patients in understanding the implications of genetic testing results and provide emotional support and guidance regarding reproductive choices
  • Educate patients about available reproductive technologies, including prenatal screening and diagnostic tests
  • Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education opportunities, and professional development activities
  • Provide patient education materials, support groups, and resources to assist patients in managing their reproductive health decisions

The successful candidate will be hired as Instructor in the Department of OBGYN and active in the UMSOM program for the Masters in Genetic Counseling. In addition to teaching and supervision of trainees in Genetic Counseling, GCs participate in teaching the trainees in medicine and OB/GYN with the opportunity to participate in scholarly activitie

Qualifications

  • Master's degree from a graduate program accredited by the Accreditation Council of Genetic Counseling and/or active board certification or board eligibility by the American Board of Genetic Counseling
  • Two to three years of relevant experience strongly preferred

Total Approved Salary Range: $70,000 - $109,000

The referenced salary range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the Departmental faculty compensation program or pay from participation in Departmental variable compensation programs. The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on the University of Maryland School of Medicine's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
