Position Overview:

The Harris County Public Health (HCPH) Safety Manager is responsible for the day-to-day safety operations & programs, accident prevention, and ensuring compliance with all applicable standard operating procedures, crisis management response, and environmental health matters.

The HCPH Safety Manager will collaborate with the Harris County (HC) Risk Management Safety Team.

Duties & Responsibilities:

* Conducts safety & environmental health meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments

* Plans, implements, manages, and maintains comprehensive environmental health & safety programs for HCPH locations

* Plans, implements, and conducts preventative care, safety, environmental health and compliance training programs

* Researches regulatory requirements, and recommends best safety practices to the HCPH HR Leadership and HC Risk Management Safety Team

* Manages the process for 1st Report of Injury or Illness, workplace accidents, workers compensation, and other related safety programs

* Responsible for Safety record keeping, records retention, and recommends corrective measures to the HCPH HR Leadership based on a data driven approach

* Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in safety, Environmental Health or other related field

Experience:

* At least five (5) years of Safety experience in a large and complex organization

* At least three (3) years of safety management experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

* Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment

* Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information

* Ability to work well with staff members, and other Harris County Departments

* Must use your personal mobile device for our Multifactor Authentication process

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

* This is a full-time position.

* Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5 pm.

Work Environment:

* This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands:

* This is an active role, and could require the ability to lift up to 30 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
