Position Overview:
Lotus School for Excellence is seeking a passionate and dedicated Spanish teacher for middle and high school students. The ideal candidate will inspire students to learn and appreciate the Spanish language and its cultures. This position requires a teacher who can create an engaging and inclusive learning environment while meeting the educational needs of students with varied levels of proficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Instruction: Develop and implement Spanish language lessons that align with the school's curriculum standards and cater to students in grades 6-12.
• Curriculum Development: Design, plan, and adapt curriculum to fit the needs of diverse learners, with an emphasis on language acquisition, grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and cultural awareness.
• Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that encourages participation, creativity, and a passion for learning Spanish.
• Assessment: Regularly assess and monitor student progress through tests, projects, and assignments; provide feedback to students and parents on a regular basis.
• Differentiated Instruction: Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to accommodate varying proficiency levels and learning styles.
• Cultural Awareness: Incorporate aspects of Spanish-speaking cultures into lessons to broaden students' understanding and appreciation of the global Spanish-speaking community.
• Professional Development: Stay updated with best practices in language teaching and participate in professional development opportunities.
• Communication: Maintain open and proactive communication with students, parents, and school administration regarding student progress and classroom activities.
• Collaboration: Work with fellow teachers, staff, and administration to support interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• State teaching certification in World Languages (Spanish) for Middle and High School.
• Proficiency in both oral and written Spanish.
• Experience teaching Spanish at the middle or high school level.
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
• Ability to engage and motivate students of varying proficiency levels.
• Commitment to fostering a culturally inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Condition of Employment

As a condition of employment, the individual selected for this position will be expected to complete the APS-sponsored Linguistically Diverse Educator (LDE) Certificate Program within the first three years of employment. New hires are expected to begin this program during the 2024-2025 school year.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with immersion or proficiency-based language teaching methods.
• Familiarity with educational technology and tools for language learning.
• Experience with extracurricular activities (clubs, trips, etc.) related to Spanish culture and language.

Work Environment:

• This position requires teaching in a classroom setting with occasional outdoor activities.
• Teachers may be required to participate in school events, parent-teacher meetings, and extracurricular activities.
