Elk Range Royalties is an active buyer of mineral and royalty interests in the US. We have partnered with NGP Energy, an investment firm with an over 30-year history of investing in the oil and gas business. The company is currently investing capital out of its third equity commitment from NGP under Elk Range Royalties III.

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Landman to join our team. This position will be responsible for managing all land-related aspects of the company's mineral and royalty ownership in the Rockies region (Colorado, Wyoming and Utah). The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and possess strong negotiation and organizational skills. A comprehensive understanding of land, legal, regulatory, and oil & gas industry principles is required.

 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct all land-related duties utilizing company and public data to identify, catalog and report on all mineral and royalty interests in the Rockies region.
  • Review and analyze land titles to identify ownership discrepancies, recommend corrective actions, and implement resolutions as directed.
  • Identify, develop and execute processes and procedures surrounding lease, surface owner and asset obligations.
  • Proactively monitor the asset to identify unleased mineral interests and negotiate new oil and gas leases or other development agreements to encourage development of the asset.
  • Proactively monitor the asset to ensure operator compliance with oil and gas lease terms and all other contractual terms and oversee corrective actions when necessary.
  • Stay current on regulatory provisions, industry trends, and mineral valuations to enhance asset value.
  • Monitor drilling activity on and around company mineral and royalty interests, providing regular updates to management.
  • Collaborate with oil and gas operators to ensure proper agreements (e.g., pooling, unitization) are in place for accurate and timely royalty payments.
  • Work alongside the Asset Management and Engineering teams to accurately identify and calculate well net revenue interests.
  • Provide general support to the Asset Management team regarding their curative and division order efforts.
  • Represent the company regarding surface owner related matters and at regulatory hearings (state oil & gas commission, BLM & public hearings).
  • Perform additional land-related duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:
  • Must reside in the DFW area and work in-person at our Dallas office.
  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Land Management, Energy Management, Business Administration, Law, or a related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience as a Landman, with in-house experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and QGIS.
  • Strong expertise in negotiating and executing oil and gas leases, pooling agreements, unitization agreements, and surface use agreements.
  • Familiarity with Colorado, Utah and Wyoming regulations and DJ, Uintah and Powder River Basin specific requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in unconventional/conventional resource plays.
  • AAPL Certified Professional Landman (CPL) certification.
  • Proficiency in Spotfire.
  • Must provide list of professional references.

Travel Requirements:
  • Potential 5% - 10% travel required for meetings, training, and field visits.
