Job Title: Staff Accountant Location: Silver Spring, MD Job Type: Full-Time Job Summary: Stable, educational nonprofit in DC (with private funding) is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Staff Accountant with at least one year of experience in accounting. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, strong reconciliation skills, and the ability to work efficiently with large data sets. This role involves performing accounting functions such as account reconciliations, financial reporting, and assisting in month-end close processes. Key Responsibilities: Perform monthly account reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial data. Analyze and resolve discrepancies in financial records. Assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements. Review and process journal entries as required. Maintain and update financial records in the accounting system. Work with large data sets to extract and analyze financial information. Prepare reports for management and assist with audits when necessary. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures. Support month-end and year-end closing processes. Assist in the preparation of tax filings and other regulatory requirements. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is a requirement At least 1 year of professional experience in accounting or a related role. Strong understanding of accounting principles and reconciliation processes. Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and data analysis. Ability to work efficiently with large data sets and perform data analysis. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and in a team. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with ERP systems and other accounting software. Peoplesoft preferred. Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements. Experience in preparing financial statements and reports.
