Job Summary

The Staining Specialist is responsible for preparing and applying stains, dyes, glazes, and finishes to high-end custom cabinetry. This position ensures that all wood surfaces meet quality standards and customer expectations before final finishing. The Staining Specialist must work with attention to detail, maintain consistency in stain applications, and collaborate with team members to ensure a smooth workflow.

Responsibilities

The following duties are representative of the position but are not intended to be all-inclusive:

1. Surface Preparation
   • Sand, clean, and condition wood surfaces before staining.
   • Identify and address any imperfections to ensure an even stain application.
   • Mask or protect non-stained areas as required.
2. Stain Mixing & Application
   • Mix, match, and apply stains, dyes, and glazes according to project specifications.
   • Ensure consistent color and finish across multiple components.
   • Use hand application techniques (brushing, wiping, spraying) to achieve the desired look.
3. Quality Control & Troubleshooting
   • Inspect all stained pieces to ensure they meet company quality standards.
   • Understand and utilize application techniques as necessary to correct inconsistencies.
   • Communicate with the supervisor regarding any issues with stain performance or wood characteristics.
4. Equipment & Safety Compliance
   • Properly maintain and clean staining tools and equipment.
   • Follow all company safety procedures, including proper handling of chemicals and ventilation practices.
   • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to workplace safety regulations.
5. Collaboration & Workflow Efficiency
   • Work closely with sanding, finishing, and assembly teams to ensure production timelines are met.
   • Keep an organized workspace and manage materials efficiently.
   • Assist in record-keeping of stain formulations and processes for consistency in future projects.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in wood staining, finishing, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of wood species, grain patterns, and stain absorption properties.
• Proficiency in hand-staining techniques and familiarity with spray equipment (HVLP systems preferred).
• High level of attention to detail and ability to achieve uniform, high-quality finishes.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and work in a shop environment with exposure to stains, solvents, and finishing materials.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment to meet deadlines.

Great Hours!

Daytime hours, Monday through Friday, 6 am to 2:30 plus overtime as needed, Saturdays 5 am: to 9 am
