Job Description Summary This position is responsible for the daily management and operation of stArt (Wake Forest University's student art gallery), including for the stArt.dt extension at Wake Downtown. This position actively collaborates with students and their faculty to realize exhibitions and to develop and execute programming. The manager performs outreach and coordination with the Wake Forest University Art Department along with other university and local community arts allies to increase the visibility and raise awareness of the mission and programming of stArt.

Job Description Essential Functions: Responsible for stArt operations, including, but not limited to maintaining the gallery schedule for exhibitions and programming, liaising with Art Department students and faculty, supervising students and interns, and ensuring that gallery policies are followed. Initiates and executes programming, creates exhibition schedules, and works autonomously to perform design and installation tasks for the stArt galleries. Leads in the hiring, training, supervision, guidance, and evaluation of student interns and student workers for stArt. Mentors student artists and curators as part of stArt exhibitions and programming. Coordinates closely with University Art Galleries and Collections (including Hanes Gallery), cultivates and maintains relationships on behalf of stArt Gallery with university stakeholders such as the Art Department, Wake the Arts, students, faculty, and staff. Maintains and updates the stArt website and social media to promote and inform the community about current and upcoming programming. Organizes contracts and logistics for artworks, including maintaining and updating the stArt Consignment Catalog for student artwork available for purchase. Assists Hanes Gallery with the logistics and submission process for Wakeville, the annual student art exhibition, and honors art exhibitions. Other Functions: Processes purchases and invoices, tracks expenses, and assists in budget development for stArt exhibitions and programming. Works with Hanes Gallery staff and assists in mentoring Honors in Studio Art candidates. Works with Wake the Arts Center on intersecting projects related to stArt. Maintains an archive of stArt exhibition databases, photo documentation, and gallery documents. Serves as the primary resource for all questions and concerns related to stArt. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Bachelor's Degree Member of the Wake Forest University undergraduate graduating class from the two most recent academic years (2024 or 2025). General knowledge of contemporary art, art history, art exhibitions, or the art marketplace. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Excellent organizational and time management skills for planning, organizing, and executing diverse programming. Proficiency in computer skills Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours as needed. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Preference for a degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies, Business, or related fields Relevant work or internship experience. Ability to supervise, train, or lead others, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Proficiency in Adobe software Knowledge of University policies and procedures Responsible with funds and knowledge of fiscal management Knowledge of practices and procedures to prepare exhibits for shipping, receiving, storage, preservation, installation, and disassembly. Accountabilities: Works with limited supervision Manages own time and exhibition schedule independently Supervises student workers and interns Responsible for security and safety practices associated with the handling of sensitive property (WFU Art Collections and other artworks) and finances.
