Job Title: Top Level Assembly (Mechanical) Technician
Job Location: Rapid City, SD
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented [TLAM] Top-Level Assembly (Mechanical) Operator to assemble and prepare precision mechanical and electronic components. Many tasks require working under a microscope and demand a high level of craftsmanship, manual dexterity & manual steadiness. This role requires adherence to engineering specifications, quality standards, and manufacturing documentation to ensure consistent, high-quality product assembly.
Duties & Responsibilities: Primary Responsibilities: \n - Assemble top-level mechanical/electronic components into sub-assemblies or final products, following manufacturing documentation such as travelers, drawings, and work instructions.
\n - Perform firmware loading from computer files and conduct functional testing on devices, components, and cable assemblies.
\n - Carry out in-process inspections to ensure compliance with engineering and quality standards.
\n - Disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble, and test both production and prototype units as required.
\n - Work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively with team members.
\n - Maintain clear and professional written and verbal communication.

Daily Duties Include: \n - Interpret and follow manufacturing drawings, travelers, and work instructions.
\n - Assemble components in compliance with IPC standards.
\n - Assemble mechanical hardware, wiring harnesses, and electrical connectors.
\n - Perform detailed soldering operations and microscope-based assembly tasks.
\n - Complete the required production and quality documentation accurately with proper organization.
\n - Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
\n - Support continuous improvement efforts and uphold key metrics: Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Schedule.
\n - Switch tasks and priorities flexibly in a dynamic production environment.
\n - Work overtime as needed.
\n - Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment: \n - Frequent work under a microscope with small parts.
\n - Sitting for extended periods.
\n - Use of ESD-safe practices and cleanroom protocols as applicable.
\n - Maintain and follow designated work area organization.
\n - Occasional lifting of light to moderately heavy items.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements: Preferred Qualifications & Skills: \n - Strong manual dexterity and steady hand-eye coordination.
\n - Sharp attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
\n - Familiarity with IPC standards preferred but not required:
\n - --IPC-A-610: Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies
\n - --J-STD-001: Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies
\n - --IPC-A-WHMA-620: Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies
\n - Ability to operate various hand tools, microscopes, and test equipment.
\n - Proficiency in reading electronic work instructions and engineering documentation.
\n - Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word).
\n - Capable of working independently and managing time effectively.
\n - Capable of following and fulfilling tasks given by area supervisor.
\n - Willingness to follow and perform repetitive tasks.
\n - Strong communication skills in spoken and written English.
\n - Positive, respectful, and collaborative attitude.
