Job Overview

The Training & Safety Associate supports training, safety and onboarding initiatives at the Indianapolis facility. This entry-level, hourly role focuses on delivering hands-on training to employees and helping to maintain a safe, positive, and engaging work environment. This position is a key part of building a stronger training & safety culture and offers opportunities for future growth and development.

Key Responsibilities

Onboarding & Training Responsibilities:

  • Deliver safety and SOP training during new hire orientation for hourly employees.
  • Facilitate group and 1:1 hands-on training sessions for hourly employees in the Assembly department and other areas as assigned.
  • Maintain training documentation in physical files and the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Support cross-training efforts for employees moving into other lines and departments (e.g., Molding, Label Room).
  • Conduct skills assessments prior to training to confirm learner readiness.
  • Deliver visual and written assessments to confirm learner proficiency following training.
  • Observe employees performing tasks and determine if further training or coaching is needed based on established criteria.
  • Prepare materials and set up spaces for group training, including presentations, tools, or PPE as needed.
  • Maintain locker assignments, including preparing vacated lockers for new hires.
  • Issue employee name badges and building entry fobs.
  • Enter new hire information into the HR database.

Safety Responsibilities:

1. Safety Committee:

  • Lead the formation and coordination of the facilitys safety committee, including meeting planning, member engagement, and follow-up on action items.
  • Maintain committee meeting notes and communicate updates to employees.

2. Safety Communication:

  • Research and draft monthly safety awareness topics for HR review and approval.
  • Share approved topics during W2 meetings, in the employee newsletter, or other channels.
  • Provide quick safety talking points to supervisors for use during department startup meetings when needed.

3. Safety Training & Compliance:

  • Track completion of required safety training and follow up with supervisors to ensure compliance.
  • Assist with periodic safety drills (e.g., fire, severe weather) and maintain participation records.

4. Incident Response & Reporting:

  • Perform daily safety checks and document findings or concerns.
  • Support workers compensation process by assisting with initial injury response, completing incident paperwork, and starting claims with the companys carrier as directed by HR.
  • Assist with incident investigations by gathering facts, photos, and witness statements under the direction of HR.
  • Maintain safety documentation, including inspection logs, committee notes, and incident reports.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by reinforcing safe practices and awareness.

Additional Support Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly production meetings and deliver updates on training and safety initiatives.
  • Serve as a backup presenter for the HR/policy portion of orientation.
  • Participate in the Employee Engagement Committee and assist with planning and executing activities.
  • Assist with other HR-related tasks or recruiting support as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience delivering training in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication skills and comfort speaking to groups.
  • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple responsibilities with accuracy.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude and willingness to learn and grow.
  • Some college preferred.

Requirements

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently

Work Environment

This position requires approximately 80% of time on the manufacturing floor and 20% in an office setting .

  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • May occasionally be required to sit, stoop, bend, reach, and lift items up to 50 pounds.
  • Work is performed in a light manufacturing environment , with minimal exposure to chemicals , noise, and temperature variations.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in designated areas.
  • Frequent walking between departments and production zones is expected.
