Transport Engineer

Location: Richmond, VA.

Job Description:

This position requires a seasoned transport engineer with significant project management experience, a strong understanding of wireless engineering, and the ability to handle multiple projects in a dynamic environment. You will support Verizon’s macro, in-building, small cell, self-perform/third-party ODAS, Samsung LS6, 5G CRAN/VRAN, and MEC build targets.

Must-Have Qualifications:

• Proficiency in office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Sheets, and Docs
• Skilled in database management, project tracking tools, and logical systems
• Strong executive-level problem-solving, project management, and troubleshooting abilities
• Ability to quickly learn and apply new wireless engineering technologies
• Self-motivated, independent, and shows initiative
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience with engineering and economic principles
• Background in the cellular or telecommunications industry
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong decision-making and organizational planning skills

Desired Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• Experience with XNG/Granite circuit databases
• Familiarity with ASR ordering systems
• Knowledge of interconnect circuit types (e.g., TLS, EMUX, Dark Fiber, EOS)
• Understanding of wireless 4G/5G architectures (e.g., 3GPP Option 3X)
• Previous project management experience
• Experience with centralized RAN (CRAN) in urban environments
• Understanding of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM)
• Knowledge of IPv4/IPv6 addressing
• Awareness of licensed and unlicensed microwave backhaul technologies

Job Duties:

• Develop monthly interconnect implementation plans for a variety of technologies and build types
• Engineer and issue CIQs, IP/Port assignments, new cells/trunks, switch growth, circuit orders, and carrier additions
• Work with Verizon Telecom products like Native Ethernet, VZON TLS, and Dark Fiber
• Understand and operate within Verizon’s IOF and OSP provisioning processes
• Place circuit orders with Local Exchange Carriers (LECs) for services including dark fiber, EOS, EBH, and TLS
• Document transport circuits and paths using XNG, Granite, FUZE, and CND
• Track and escalate orders to ensure timely completion
• Plan, design, and implement transport solutions for the 5G rollout
• Attend project update meetings and present progress reports
• Manage vendors to meet critical milestones and network turn-up targets
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to optimize transport design
• Create and manage FUZE-based trackers to improve data integrity and workflow
• Align equipment growth planning with forecasted needs to support company goals
