Principal Responsibility Volunteer Services (VS) manages the volunteers that make our work at St. Anthony's possible. We welcome thousands of people each year from every sector of the community to engage in direct service with those experiencing poverty and homelessness. Together our volunteer corps provide over 114,000 hours of service per year to St. Anthony's programs. In this role, you will provide high quality engagement and service experience for our volunteers while they provide services in the Dining Room. As a steward of healing and social justice, you are expected to meet the following duties: Essential Duties and Responsibilities Volunteer Engagement Responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the Dining Room's volunteer program (500 regular-5000 one-time volunteers annually). With the responsibility for directing 45-60 volunteers daily to serve meals to unhoused or low-income guests. Responsible for the overall coordination and oversight of the Dining Room volunteer program including recruitment, screening, orientation, training, placement, supervision, scheduling and termination of volunteers for the Dining Room, including after service hour projects, programs, and foundation wide events. Works to create and environment, in which our volunteers feel welcome, recognized and satisfied. Assists with the development of and oversees the implementation of general volunteer orientation and training information and materials. Oversees volunteers' work performance, observance of guidelines, and interactions with staff, clients, and other volunteers. Oversees and monitors the implementation of corrective action processes for and/or termination of volunteers when necessary. Compassionately trains and supervises volunteers in the fast-paced demanding Dining Room (45-60+/day); monitors volunteers' work performance, observance of guidelines, and interactions with staff, clients, and other volunteers. Provides information to, screens, and assesses potential volunteers; places volunteers in appropriate assignments. Schedules volunteers to ensure the volunteer needs of the Dining Room are met daily. Treat all guests with empathy, dignity, and respect. Seek to understand the other person's perspective and experience. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively across cultures and an openness to learning about cultures not familiar to oneself. Program Administration and Operations Complete reports and all other paperwork neatly, legibly, and thoroughly. Enter data and information electronically as required. Looks up data and reports electronically through a database as requested. Understand and follow the organization's programs, policies, and procedures Participate in regular training and development opportunities to increase personal capacity to apply innovative approaches to daily workflows, service delivery, and employee engagement. Use Salesforce to check web sign-ups daily, regularly checking data accuracy, training other staff on how to use Salesforce, configuring daily volunteer numbers, and posting shifts online as needed. Maintains timely communication with volunteers as needed including phone calls, emails, correspondence through Salesforce. Oversees the evaluation of court-referred and student volunteers and completes necessary paperwork to track their service. Teamwork Participate in relevant meetings supporting team communication and the program's capacity to fulfill organizational goals and mission. Collaboratively works with others to achieve team success. Manage stress and pressure situations calmly and responsively. Maintain the capacity to control reactions and awareness of how their behavior or response can impact others. Consistently demonstrate integrity while working and representing St. Anthony's. Practice direct, respectful, open, and honest communication with their colleagues. Proactively seeks support from team members or management. Demonstrate cooperation with coworkers, management, and the community at large. Assists with planning and coordinating special volunteer activities including: Holiday volunteer calls, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas day, Turkey Carve event, Christmas Wrap, Holiday Kid's Party, Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event, etc. Works collaboratively with the Dining Room Front of House Staff to maintain a safe and welcoming environment to serve our guests in the best way possible. Works collaboratively with the Dining Room Back of House Staff to maintain an expedited flow of food to our guests as well as prepare for future meals. Minimum Qualifications Two years' related experience including some experience working with or directing volunteers. BA or equivalent work experience. Experience working in social services preferred. Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills are required. Ability to be polite, diplomatic, and firm. Can set limits and practice professional boundaries with guests, volunteers, donors, and coworkers. Ability to respond to emergencies and high-pressure situations in a self-composed and self-assured manner. Ability to work non-traditional hours and days (weekends and holidays required). Ability to complete paperwork neatly and legibly. Ability or willingness to learn to use information and communication technologies (computers, smartphones, and iPads) to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information. Ability to be punctual, reliable, cooperative, and stay team-oriented. Experience working in a non-profit or community-based social service agency with people experiencing homelessness or poverty desired.
