Hackensack Meridian Health seeks an exceptional Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (VP, CMO) to lead clinical operations and drive quality improvement at Hackensack Medical Center in Hackensack, New Jersey. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing the daily clinical activities across the Clinical Departments, Institutes, and Medical Staff. This role will collaborate with dynamic leaders to enhance performance, innovations and patient care excellence. This is an excellent leadership opportunity within our dynamic health network.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership in clinical operations, quality improvement, and patient safety to enhance care delivery and outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards while driving excellence in clinical performance and patient experience.
  • Oversee medical staff governance, credentialing, and leadership development to support a high-performing clinical workforce.
  • Support medical staff in governance, credentialing, peer review (OPPE & FPPE), medical education, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Lead physician recruitment and retention efforts, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Drive innovation and growth in clinical programs and service lines, aligning with organizational goals and community needs.
  • Foster collaboration between senior leadership, medical staff, and external partners to strengthen partnerships and advance healthcare initiatives.
  • Develop and manage budgets for clinical departments, optimizing resource allocation and financial performance.

Opportunity Requirements:

  • M.D. or D.O. Degree.
  • Advanced degree in healthcare administration, business, or public health.
  • Fellow, American College of Healthcare Executives preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive management and leadership experience within a large academic medical center
  • or a multi-hospital health system.
  • Prior experience as a Department/Division Chief/Chair.
  • Strong financial, operational, and strategic planning expertise.
  • Proven ability to lead physician engagement, quality improvement, and regulatory initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
