Your Role: Middle School Math Teacher

As a Middle School Math Teacher , you will be a vital part of a grade-level team, guiding students on their journey to becoming self-directed learners. Your passion for mathematics will inspire students to engage deeply with the subject, fostering a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. You will employ a variety of instructional strategies to cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ensuring that by the end of eighth grade, students are ready for the academic challenges of high school.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instruction

  • Teach foundational middle school math principles, including ratios, proportions, expressions, equations, and the number system.
  • Utilize our in-house CCSS-based Math curriculum and culturally responsive problem-solving activities.
  • Motivate students to tackle problems and explore various solutions.
  • Foster confidence and meaningful engagement with mathematics.

2. Data Analysis

  • Collaborate weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze student work and assessment trends.
  • Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom.

3. School Culture

  • Build positive relationships with students, ensuring they feel seen, loved, and heard.
  • Partner with families to provide resources that support their child's learning needs.
  • Engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
  • Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to cultivate community and model our core values.
  • Collaborate with your grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional strategies.

Qualifications

  • A demonstrated commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
  • An enthusiasm for collaboration with internal and external partners in the best interest of students.
  • A self-directed learner who actively seeks and implements feedback to improve outcomes.
  • Required Experience:
    • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities preferred.
    • Academic expertise in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher is required before employment begins.
    • While certification is not required for hiring, you must pass state teacher certification tests to meet MA state requirements once hired.
    • All Commonwealth charter teachers must have an appropriate MA educator’s license or pass required MTELs within their first year of employment.

Compensation

Compensation for this role ranges from $57,000 to $89,000 , determined by factors such as relevant teaching experience, education certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time teaching experience will likely start at $57,000.
