The Part-Time Temporary Specialist, Communications will collaborate with the Science Media Relations team within the National Marketing and Communication department. This role offers professional experience with a leading non-profit organization, focusing on creating compelling, accurate news materials and supporting engagement with science and healthcare journalists. The candidate will gain firsthand experience in media relations strategies supporting our 14 peer-reviewed scientific journals and 7 annual scientific meetings. Position Overview: Time Commitment: Approximately 20-25 hours per week, remotely, flexible around class schedules. This is a one-year position with the Association’s National Science Media Relations team. Responsibilities Support the Science Media Relations team in reviewing articles published in our scientific journals weekly. Assist in the review process for scientific meetings. Help develop news releases and promotional support materials, including multimedia content. Proofread press materials and compile media coverage reports, including media clips and hyperlinks for dashboards. Research new collaboration opportunities and strategies. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred candidates are rising juniors, seniors, or graduate students in journalism, news writing, communications, science writing, or public health with an interest in non-profit and healthcare communications. Typically, three (3) years of relevant experience are required, but not mandatory. Strong awareness of current health news, proficiency in AP Style, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Teamwork skills, attention to detail, self-motivation, and resourcefulness are essential. Other Qualifications Professional demeanor suitable for corporate or non-profit remote work. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of Adobe Suite and Canva is a plus. Minimum of 20 hours/week availability, M-F, 8:30 am - 5 pm CST. Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Required equipment: Reliable WiFi connection.
