JOB SUMMARY

Normandy Schools Collaborative is seeking a dedicated and qualified Reading Acceleration (Read 180) Teacher to join our team at The Middle School at Lucas Crossing Complex OR Normandy High School. The ideal candidate will have a passion for literacy education and possess expertise in providing reading intervention to students who are two or more grade levels below in reading. The Reading Acceleration/Read 180 Teacher will primarily work with high school and middle school students, utilizing programs such as R180 and System 44 to support students' literacy development. Normandy is seeking talented educators with a broad base of knowledge in curriculum and pedagogy. In this position, teachers are expected to plan, organize, and deliver programs of instruction that support the premise/core belief that all children can learn and implement activities that promote the learning goals and academic expectations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Demonstrate an overall knowledge of literacy that allows him/her to teach to the student's ability levels and learning styles.
  • Assist in the screening process to identify students who are two or more grade levels below in reading.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal.
  • Develop individualized reading intervention plans for students based on assessment results and academic goals.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Implement evidence-based instructional strategies to improve students' foundational skills; reading fluency; comprehension; and vocabulary skills.
  • Utilize R180 and System 44 programs effectively to provide targeted intervention and support to students.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and techniques which accommodate all learning modalities.
  • Assesses students' special needs and collaborates with school services and community agencies to meet those needs.
  • Monitor students' progress regularly through ongoing assessments and adjust intervention plans as needed.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policies and administrative regulations.
  • Regularly communicate expectations, criteria for assessment, student progress, and student strengths/weaknesses to parents and students and share strategies for support and ongoing learning at home.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other stakeholders to support students' overall academic success.
  • Participate in all expected professional development related to the instructional and curricular program in order to improve instructional performance and promote student learning.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction to provide professional development and support to teachers on best practices for literacy instruction and intervention.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and intervention activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information concerning students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on students' progress and strategies for support at home.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Stay current with research and best practices in literacy education and reading intervention.
  • Demonstrate high standards of professionalism and ethics
  • Use technology for teaching, student learning and assessment.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the principal.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in an applicable field.
  • Major, or 24 semester hours, in subject area to be taught.
  • Passing score on Praxis II Test in subject area to be taught (Must have already passed Praxis II prior to being considered for employment).
  • Must possess a valid Missouri Teaching Certificate or be eligible for a Missouri Teaching Certificate

  • Experience working with students who are struggling readers, preferably in a high school or middle school setting.
  • Knowledge of reading intervention programs such as R180 and System 44.
  • Strong understanding of literacy development and evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Ability to analyze assessment data and develop targeted intervention plans.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting students' academic growth.
  • Reasoning: Apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques when presenting subject matter to students; draw reasoned conclusions and make professional recommendations supported by data and research; demonstrate executive functions such as planning, organizing, remembering and regulating information and behavior as they pertain to student performance and achievement.
  • Technology: Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use; use district software, including smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district.
  • Physical Demands: Must have the ability to speak and hear in a typical school environment, which is often noisy and active; must be able to read handwritten or printed material.
  • Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
