Spritz has been working with Scoma’s for the past 2 years and was proud to partner in the planning and execution of Scoma’s 50th Anniversary Celebration last week. Thursday’s festivities included over 400 loyal patrons, local dignitaries, media and industry colleagues in attendance!
Spritz helped develop the event and secured an appearance by the Rat Pack, who mingled with guests and performed timeless songs that reflect the era when Scoma’s first opened its doors! Scoma’s may have aesthetically modernized in some ways, but the appearance by Frank, Dino, Sammy and Joey helped reinforce the traditional, classic feel that first made the restaurant popular.
Spritz also coordinated appearances from city officials, local celebrities, and dignitaries and invited key media while developing several partnerships betweenScoma’s,Celebrity Cruises, and Madame Tussauds, and PIER2620 Hotel.
Members of the Spritz team welcomed guests as they arrived on the red carpet overlooking the Bay. Guests were then invited to enter a drawing to win a Modern Luxury gift basket courtesy of Celebrity Cruises.
In the restaurant entrance, VIP guests had the chance to take pictures with a past Scoma’s patron, Tony Bennett, whose wax figure was brought to Scoma’s from world famous Madame Tussauds just down the street in Fisherman’s Wharf. Commemorative photos by the Scoma’s Step and Repeat were also provided to guests.
Guests sampled some of Scoma’s classic dishes, such as Crab Cakes and Crab Louie Salad, while mingling with various members of the Scoma’s family and team, including Cheryl Scoma herself and new Culinary Director Gordon Drysdale. Chef Drysdale’s commitment to the freshest, most sustainable fish and ingredients is exhibited by his ambitions to reopen the Scoma’s smokehouse and the continuance of their own fish-receiving station.
It was exciting for Spritz to witness everyone come together to celebrate the Scoma’s legacy in the renovated dining rooms and along the new fireplace as they shared their own Scoma’s dining experience stories over a glass of champagne served from the restaurant’s new bar lounge.
The event, emceed by award-winning host of KCBS’ Foodie Chap, Liam Mayclem, culminated in a special presentation where State Assembly member David Chiu, along with city officials Phil Ting, Jim Molinari, and Anna Damiani, honored Scoma’s with a proclamation certificate that officially established June 18th, 2015 as Scoma’s Day.
Tom Creedon, son-in-law of the late Al Scoma and part owner of the restaurant, was recognized and received the certificates for their dedication to fresh, sustainable food over the years. Alongside him was Cheryl Scoma, Al’s beloved wife, and her grandson A.J.
During what was truly a memorable afternoon for the Scoma’s family, dignitaries including the Italian Consul General Mauro Battocchi, Russian Consul General Sergey Petrov, and Singapore Consul General Christopher Cheang spoke about how Scoma’s has become an important part of our world-class city.
The celebration is not over, however, as Scoma’s continues its anniversary programs with a video recipe contest on Facebook. In partnership with Celebrity Cruises, Scoma’s is offering its fans and patrons the opportunity to submit 60-second videos detailing their favorite Sicilian-inspired recipe for a chance to win a Celebrity Cruises Europe Cruise for two!
